gob with the Black Halos & Tuuli

By: Carla Tucker

Frosh Mosh V is fast approaching and I'm sure you are wondering about the line-up of artists about to appear at The Wall.

Tuuli, has been described as "a female Blink 182". Yes boys, not only are they a female punk rock band that radiates pop, they're hot too. Their sound is a blend of bands like The Runaways, The Go-Go's, The Clash and The Ramones. Being the young women that they are, they also pay homage to Hole, Veruca Salt and Garbage. The band includes guitarist Dawn Mandarino, bassist Claire Blake, drummer Michelle Lamoignan and Jenny Vegas. Hailing from Toronto, this band guarantees to be a showstopper.

Now, onto The Black Halos. The band includes guitarist/vocalist Rich Jones, vocalist Billy Hopeless, guitarist Jay Millette, drummer Rob Zgaljic and bassist/vocalist Matt Camirand. They have been described as a "bunch of naughty schoolboys...playing punk rock." They have made a total of nine North American tours to date and as their biography promises, they are "here to spike your punch bowl and leave their butt prints on your Xerox machine."

The feature act of the evening is gob. Hailing from Vancouver, gob has been around since 1993. The band includes guitarist/vocalist Tom, guitarist/vocalist Theo, bassist Craig and drummer Gabe. I'm sure you all recognize gob, unless you've been living under a rock these last couple of years. They played Edgefest '99 and the Vans Warped Tour three years in a row where in 2000 they headlined the main stage in Calgary and in Toronto. They are currently promoting their new album: The World According to gob. They album has moved gob towards a more classic and mature rock sound inspired by bands like Def Leppard. Don't worry gob fans, the band assures you that there is still "the good old-fashioned heavy guitars wailing in your face! There's lots of energy behind it."

gob with The Black Halos & Tuuli will be at The Wall on Wednesday September 5th. Doors open for this wet/dry event at 8:00pm. Tickets cost $20 each and can be purchased at The Wall or at NUSU.

I am still trying to get an interview with gob so if you have any questions you'd like me to ask e-mail them to me at carla_thehibou@hotmail.com. Keep reading The Hibou for a review of the concert as well as the interview.
